The team of engineers behind the McLaren 650S Spider were determined to create a truly high-performance convertible. They spent a gruelling six months dropping the weight of the hard top's mechanisms from 50 kg (110 lbs) to 40 kg (88 lbs), such was their dedication.
As a result, the roof's inner workings have so little effect on the McLaren 650S Spider's centre of gravity that it scythes through corners every bit as well as its coupé equivalent. Mission accomplished.
A dramatic, luxury supercar, the McLaren 650S Spider was inspired by the formidable McLaren P1. It has been painstakingly designed to command attention, whether the roof is up or down.
The Carbon Black Alcantara interior is a blend of refined design and race-bred technology. Every surface and control has been optimised to give the greatest driving experience – echoing that of a Formula 1™ cockpit. Enhanced by the rush of the wind and the unhindered roar of the engine.
