FIVE WITH LANDO

Lando Norris has firmly established himself as a top Formula 1 driver, but he also has a passion for beautiful automotive design and engineering. We take five minutes to talk to Lando about his favourite bits of our Real Supercar, the W1.

1. FORMULA 1 KNOW-HOW

I think one of the best things about this car, and the McLaren team as a whole, is the expertise. The engineering team behind the McLaren W1 has collectively earned 16 Formula 1 World Championship titles.

It’s incredible to think about and shows how much value they have brought to the performance of the W1.

2. NEW BENCHMARKS

When I drove the P1, I said it was the best road car I had ever driven… but the W1 is next level. When someone says do you want to drive the “fastest ever”, you always get excited and the W1 is the fastest-lapping and fastest-accelerating road-legal car McLaren has ever made.

3. F1 INSPIRED SUSPENSION

I love the F1-inspired suspension.

With this car being developed so closely to our Formula 1 cars, it's been directly inspired by generations of F1 engineers, meaning you can optimise your ride depending on whether you're at the track or on the road.

4. LIGHTWEIGHT ENGINEERING MARVEL

I have to talk about the handling of this car. It is so light, handles beautifully and is so responsive, you can really feel it. It has plenty of carbon-fibre, and what isn't carbon is 3D-printed or titanium.

It's incredible what the team have achieved with this package, and at 1,399kg for a car with this much power, it's unreal to drive.

5. UNMATCHED POWER

And finally, I can't forget to mention the important part of any supercar is it's engine and the brand new V8, MHP-8, is high-revving with mega character. It has an all-new High-Performance Hybrid powertrain, giving 1,275 PS.

With a power-to-weight ratio of 911 PS/tonne, it has incredible acceleration at 0-200 km/h in just 5.8 seconds. An absolute beast.
